Connect Fivetran Without Constraints

IntelliPaaS seamlessly connects Fivetran with your core business systems, enabling no-code integration for pipeline operations, sync monitoring and governed warehouse querying across cloud, on-prem and hybrid environments.

Fivetran publishes two MCP servers with quite different purposes. The documented product is Agent Context MCP, a hosted endpoint in public preview with a deliberately tiny surface — one read-only SQL execution tool plus feedback — backed by a context layer that has to be built first, with access granted by an account admin and optionally narrowed further by a read-only warehouse role scoped to selected schemas. Separately, Fivetran maintains a platform MCP server in its own GitHub organisation covering more than a hundred tools across connections, destinations, transformations, groups, webhooks and metadata; it is read-only by default with writes and deletes unlocked by an explicit scope setting and a per-action deny list, and it confirms before any write. IntelliPaaS uses the context layer for governed querying and the platform server for operations under tight scoping.

Fivetran integration capabilities

  • Execute read-only SQL against the Fivetran context layer.
  • List connections and read connection details and status.
  • Trigger and monitor connection syncs.
  • Read destinations, groups, transformations and webhooks.
  • Read pipeline metadata for lineage and documentation.
  • Perform writes and deletes only under an explicit scope setting, with confirmation.

These capabilities let pipeline state and governed warehouse data reach the systems that depend on them, without a data engineer in the loop for every question. IntelliPaaS handles field mapping, scope enforcement and data type transformation automatically.

Common integration scenarios

  • Alert Slack or PagerDuty when a connection sync fails or falls behind.
  • Trigger a downstream refresh in dbt or the warehouse when a sync completes.
  • Answer governed warehouse questions from the context layer on a schedule.
  • Report pipeline health and connector inventory in Power BI or a warehouse.
  • Provision connections consistently as new sources are onboarded.

These scenarios address the most common friction in data operations — sync failures noticed by the people reading the dashboard, warehouse questions that queue behind an analyst — by automating the flows between Fivetran and the platforms around it.

Deployment & security

Flexible deployment is essential for organisations operating in regulated industries or jurisdictions with strict data residency requirements. IntelliPaaS supports private cloud and on-premise deployments with full regional data sovereignty. Fivetran documents no regional MCP endpoints, so residency effectively follows your warehouse and destination rather than the MCP host. All deployment modes receive the same feature set, connector library and support tier, with no capability trade-offs based on deployment choice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What authentication does the connector use?

The hosted Agent Context server uses OAuth for individual accounts or system keys for headless agents, with an admin adding the specific accounts allowed to query. The platform server uses a Fivetran API key and secret.

Can it change pipelines?

Only if you allow it. The platform server is read-only by default, with writes and deletes unlocked by an explicit scope setting and a per-action deny list, and it confirms with the user before any write. The Agent Context server has no write tools at all.

What has to be set up first?

For the Agent Context server, a context layer must be built and an account admin must grant access — it is not self-serve, and it is in public preview with the tool interface subject to change. The platform server is a Fivetran-maintained repository you run yourself.

Can I deploy on-premise or in a private cloud?

Yes. Cloud (SaaS), private cloud in your own VPC, and fully on-premise or air-gapped deployments are all supported, with full feature parity across every mode.

Is my data secure?

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and IntelliPaaS is GDPR-ready. The warehouse-side role can be scoped read-only to named schemas, platform writes require an explicit opt-in, and on-prem modes keep pipeline data inside your own infrastructure boundary.
